Is HIFU Painful?

How painful is HIFU?

HIFU stands for High Intensity Focused Ultrasound and is one of the few non-invasive treatments that can reach all layers of the skin. This includes the deep SMAS layer to lift, firm and tighten the skin. So Is HIFU Painful?

Old HIFU

When HIFU, a non-surgical facelift treatment, first arrived in the UK 10 years ago, it took the aesthetic industry by storm. Many clients started noticing visible results over the months following a HIFU treatment. The problem was that it was VERY painful. It was so painful that some people needed numbing nerve injections before treatment. This put many people off having repeat treatments even though they loved the results.

Why was it so painful? Focused Ultrasound targets all layers of the skin from the surface down to the deep SMAS Layers; this used to cause excessive heat that was unbearable to many people.

New HIFU

That is history now, thanks to a revolutionary SAT (Safety Assist Transducers) technology. The hole in the transducer avoids unwanted ultrasound overlap in the skin. This means that high-intensity ultrasound waves are only focused at the specific depth being treated without causing excessive heat in other layers. This technology has made an enormous difference, and HIFU treatment has become much more comfortable with little to no downtime!

“No Pain, No Gain” is history

Technologies move on; we are now living in a world where you will gain without the pain.
